The 20k spectrum cutoff is most likely because MediaHuman downloaded the OPUS audio instead of the AAC audio which most other YouTube downloaders access, then converted the audio to 320 kbps MP3.įrom what I've seen, OPUS audio spectrum from YouTube rips goes up to at least 20k, while AAC audio spectrum from YouTube rips goes up to 15.5-16 kHz. The lost of fidelity will be less pronounce depend on the type of vocals you are using: high pitch voices like Kate Bush will not be good. However, I think you could use this for ripping voices or acapella as samples to use in a DJ set. Buy the tracks, support the artists which makes your set possible. But IMO if you're getting paid to play in a club. If the sound installation in the venue sounds like shit, I guess you could get away with it. I think this is bad, as it makes identifying legit 320 kbps MP3 much harder with tools like spek and Fakin the Funk. The MediaHuman rips do sound around same loudness, but it certain lacks the fidelity and warmth in the music which the lossless version had. I also did a quick listening test between the MediaHuman rip with a AIFF from BeatPort. The MediaHuman version sounds surprisingly well (read: louder), noticeable improvement over the 4K rip.īut the BeatPort version has audible more fidelity in the high frequency sounds. Well the 4K downloaded rip sounds by far the worst. It certainly looks like as if in the higher frequencies the fidelity are not present in the YT rips compared to the legit BeatPort MP3. If you compare the 2 YouTube rips, there are some similarity to the way the frequencies peaks in the spectrum analysis. It seems there is something going on with the MediaHuman downloaded version to boost the frequency to 20 kHz. Then loaded them all in spek and took screenshots of each of them.
Interesting, never heard of MediaHuman before.įor a quick test run I just downloaded a track I already bought MP3 from Beatport to compared it to MP3 downloaded from YouTube with MediaHuman and 4K downloader.
